REM CUSTOMER ALERT
By press release dated November 6, 2008, pharmacy benefits manager Express Scripts, a REM Preferred Provider, announced a potential large data breach tied to an extortion threat. The initial press release is embedded below, as is a follow up dated November 11, 2008.
REM has since been in contact with Express Scripts, who advised that the 75 individuals cited in the threat letter are not Workers’ Compensation related. While there is no indication now that Worker's Compensation records are involved, Express Scripts is not able to completely rule out the possibility. They have advised REM that enhanced security procedures have been employed to reduce the risk of a future data breach.
We are monitoring this matter closely and will advise our customers immediately in the event that REM claims are involved in any way. Additionally, while we periodically review data security safeguards with all REM vendors, we are taking the added precaution of initiating specific reviews at this time with all approved pharmacy benefits managers. We will immediately inform customers of any actions that result from these reviews.
